Liposuction – Liposuction – What is Fat Removal?
A number of procedures called lifestyle changes can be applied for weight loss and healthy living. The most important of these are dietary change and sports. These processes weaken us, but in some regions it is more difficult to burn fat with these changes. Even if the desired weight is reached, disproportionate fat distribution and deformity can be seen in the body. Because fat cells in some areas are more resistant to shrinkage. Fat in some areas such as abdomen and waist, hip hips, arms, ankles, thighs respond less to lifestyle changes than other areas. In other words, reducing adipose tissue by dieting or sports, thinning these areas is sometimes very difficult or even impossible. Especially in these regions, liposuction is recommended to thin excess fat, ensure skin elasticity and make the contour aesthetic.
Liposuction, or lipo for short, is one of the fat removal procedures used in plastic surgery. It is not a method of losing weight or solving obesity-related problems. It is the most commonly applied cosmetic surgery method in the United States. Different names such as lipoplasty, lipectomy, fat modeling are also used. It can be applied under general, regional or local anesthesia. The operation is carried out with the help of the negative pressure and cannula used to remove the oil. Cosmetically, it is thought that the best result will be achieved in people with normal weight and good skin elasticity. Liposuction generally has two types of uses. The first and more commonly used is cosmetic liposuction, which changes the shape and contour of the body, and the other is liposuction, which is used in the sense of breaking the chronic process in the treatment of lymphedema and has medical necessity. Cosmetic liposuction should not be performed for weight loss purposes. Only the body should aim for contour and shape change. Liposuction should not be used to treat obesity-related metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance.
In general, liposuction is performed using a cannula (a hollow tube) and aspirator (vacuum pulling oil). Liposuction can be applied with different techniques according to the fluid to be injected or the mechanism of the cannula. One of them is laser liposuction. Laser technology is used in this method, also called smart lipo. It is aimed to ensure skin tightness simultaneously by increasing collagen performance. This method is also used for medical treatment in cases such as elefantiasis and lipedema. Sometimes adipose tissue aspirated by liposuction method can be applied to different areas such as face, lips and breast as a natural filling.
Liposuction is not a slimming method, but a method that allows fat melt-resistant areas to have an aesthetic appearance. In liposuction, surgery can be performed in isolation or it is frequently applied in combination with operations such as breast aesthetics or abdominoplasty.
Although not all liposuction surgeries are equal, liposuction procedure is very safe in general. Low volume liposuctions below 1000 cc are applied awake under local anesthesia, but high volume liposuctions above 5000 cc and sometimes liposuctions above 10000 cc require hospitalization and general anesthesia. In a study published by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the mortality rate in 4500 cases of liposuction by plastic surgeons was 0. Non-plastic surgeons did not participate in this study.

Operation Process
For the degreasing process, it is inflated by giving a special liquid by injection to the aforementioned resistant areas.
Then, several incisions of a few mm are made in this area and the cannulas connected to the vacuum device are passed through this incision.
Thus, the liposuction process begins.
Oil shredding can also be done with ultrasound energy.
The degraded oils are again attracted through the vacuum device.
In this way, up to 4.5 liters of oil can be drawn, which is the safe limit from the patient, and electrolyte control is recommended for more.
Although the duration of the liposuction procedure varies according to the area and amount to be taken, it is approximately 1.5 hours.
After the Operation
After the same day or one day of hospitalization after liposuction, it is possible to leave the hospital in a short time.
Liposuction can usually respond to pain medication after surgery and a small amount of pain and bruising can be observed.
The use of special corsets is recommended after surgery. Corset use can be stopped after 4- 6 weeks.
Since the incisions will be several mm long, the scar will become vague after about 2-6 months.
In summary
Liposuction is not a method aimed at losing weight. Ideally, it is to provide body contour and shape change in people of proper weight and normal skin elasticity. Some areas of our body cannot reach the desired weakness and shape with a change in sports or diet, that is, a lifestyle change. These regions are resistant to lifestyle change. These are areas such as hips, abdomen, thighs, waist. The person of the appropriate weight can be a candidate for liposuction to make these areas more shaped.
